This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are AP chemistry students and honors chemistry students who are high achieving. Many of my AP students will go on to study science at the university level. Some will study engineering, others will go in the medical field (nursing, pre-med, pre-pharm, etc.), while others look to go into scientific research. They have an appreciation for science and a general desire to make the world a better place.

The student population is quite diverse, with various racial and ethnic groups represented.

Additionally, students are from wide ranging socioeconomic backgrounds.

My Project

My project will add to the existing resources to enrich lab experiences, particularly with the electronic balances. Higher precision electronic balances, calculators (for students to use that don't have one...instead of their phones), and digital thermometers will allow students to make more accurate measurements, critical for some labs.

This will allow groups to obtain better lab results when determining the formula of silver oxide, percent yield of copper, identifying the unknown alkali metal, predicting the volume of hydrogen gas produced, identifying precious gems, etc.

Additionally, the different light sources will add to the study of the energy of wavelengths in the Quantum Theory unit. The IR and UV lights will be used to demonstrate the photoelectric effect and the wavelengths beyond our visible spectrum.
