Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is a new school year and, from I have gathered, this group of students are eager learners. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and trying out flexible seating, which will provide them the opportunity to choose their seat and allow for them to move around and have the opportunity to be more productive. This also leads to students being proactive, which is Habit #1 in The Leader in Me, our whole-school transformation model and process developed that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.
My Project
These items will be used around the classroom at a different desk setup, which will allow students to choose how they want to sit for that week. Students will get to take initiative in their learning and decide which tool allows them to work best. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom.
It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
