As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. One way to reach these wonderful students is to provide them with many "hands-on" activities to explore and offer them alternative seating to increase their motivation for learning.
My students are creative, clever and very energetic!
They love to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
My students are looping from Kindergarten to First Grade with me so we will have the chance to be together this next school year! It will be an amazing experience as I will have the special opportunity to watch them grow even more!
My Project
My students had the wonderful opportunity to receive one standing desk last year. While everyone in the class had the chance to use the desk, it clearly wasn't enough! The kids were very eager to have their names called to be the lucky person who would get to use the "standing desk" for the day. This desk allowed me to see that my students clearly needed more of an alternative seating environment and that's why we are requesting four more desks.
By creating more of an alternative seating environment, the students will have more motivation and drive to learn!
This seating also offers choice and ownership over learning. Kids need to move! By having different forms of seating, this allows EVERY student to have the choice of where the best learning will take place.
I strive to create an environment where students are excited and motivated to learn! Students will play a big part in the way that they learn and choosing where they sit (or stand) allows them some intrinsic motivation and leads to more learning and excitement!
