Alternative Seating and Interactive Learning Through Legos!

My students need an interactive way of learning through Legos and Boogie Boards for communication plus alternative seating throughout the classroom.

My Students

My students go to school at a Title One school in Tacoma, WA. They are students with various disabilities that require social and academic supports throughout the day. I support around thirty different students throughout a school day with small group instruction, social and emotional groups and one on one instruction.

Even though these students need certain supports throughout the day, they are not defined by their disabilities.

They are strong, hard working students who push through different obstacles from home to school life.

My Project

Students with disabilities often need to use different seating options and manipulatives to be successful in the classroom. Legos give our students the option to plan and build towers, buildings and towns.

They must follow directions to build the correct model and this can translate into life skills.

For my nonverbal students, they can use the Boogie Board for communication with me and their peers. They can practice their letters, blends and numbers on these Boogie Boards as well.

Giving the students an option for alternative seating will allow them to move freely throughout the classroom. These seats are light and easy for elementary students to move around the room.
