My Students

At my school, I am starting a new class, Environmental Science. The environment is a major issue and future generations need to understand its impacts. I want to make this class fun and active by doing real science with real labs.

Our school is located on the windward side of the island of Oahu, in the state of Hawaii.

The per capita income for the town is $16,089 and nearly 50% of the population is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. About 75% of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The student population is about 92% Hawaiian and Pacific Islander.

My Project

As a nation we are dependent on fossil fuels. Oil, gas, coal, etc are non-renewable resources, quantities are diminishing and prices are high. Finding and using fossil fuels are having negative effects to our planet. I would like to get the following alternative energy kits for my class. Not only will my students learn about different types of alternative energy, but they will get to complete hands-on labs to build these devices. The Go Green Water/Wind/Solar Energy Kit will allow the class to generate power via wind, water, and solar. The Energy Conversion Kit will also allow the class to build several different alternative power generators. They will see which type is better at powering a LED, a motor, and a buzzer.

To quote Dr.Seuss' the Lorax, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.

It's not". We are on the precipice of an energy revolution. Fuel and energy prices are at an all time high. I want my students to understand the importance of eco-friendly alternative energy.
