Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have thirty-one creative students in my fifth-grade class. They are faced with many challenges, but they are so excited to learn and expand their thinking.

Our students come from a low-income community, with 100% free lunch and breakfast at our site.

Students are able to come to a safe environment, at school, where they know they will be fed and not go hungry. Our community also has a language barrier, and the majority of our students are English learners. We also have a large community of migrant workers, where families are forced to move according to where jobs are available.

Though students are faced with these problems, they are so willing to learn. They are so motivated and excited about new projects.

My Project

Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to be kids while learning. My students are in fifth grade, and I think we often forget that they are only 10 years old. They are not ready to sit in traditional chairs for six hours.

These Wiggle Chairs and mini stools will allow students to move around in their seat without disturbing others.

Often, students with high energy walk around and play with pencils or other objects in their hand. This can be very distracting to other students. If these students have wiggle chairs, they can move around and get their energy out allowing them, and those around them to focus.

This would really make a positive impact in our classroom!
