I have the pleasure of having such an amazing and diverse group of students. My students have been placed in a self-contained classroom for students labeled as having multiple disabilities. My students have disabilities that range from intellectual to physical disabilities, to other health impairments.
Some students require intensive, individualized, and frequent instruction to allow them to be as functional and independent within the community.
Some skills that are of the utmost importance are communication skills (having their own communication system), basic math skills (like number recognition), and basic literacy skills (like identifying letters or their names).
Most importantly, despite disabilities and being in a low-income area, they are great students. They are crazy, fun-loving, determined, and bright young minds. They make my day interesting and not one single day is the same. That's the life of a special education classroom, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My Project
My kiddos are at the beginning stages of literacy. Some love it and some aren't quite intrigued by their letters & their sounds yet, but that's what this project is for!
It's my hope that we can fill the classroom with some fun, educational toys that talk aloud to them so they can hear and practice their letters & their corresponding sounds.
There are some toys in this project, some books to further develop their love for learning their letters at home & even some activities for in the class. (Some of my kiddos are further along in their reading/letter identification than others!)
