My Students

My students are from a small close-knit community in the rural Appalachian heart of Kentucky, where over 30% of families are considered below the poverty level.

A large number of my students are part of the Head Start program which provides comprehensive early childhood education, including health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.

Our program consists of children ages 3 to 5 years old. Children that do not qualify for the Head Start program of Preschool may enroll starting at age 3 if they have some type of disability such as cognitive, motor, social-emotional, self-help skills, or speech impairment.

My Project

Alpha-bots and Number-bots are extraordinary manipulatives that are a letter or number one minute and with a few twist and turns they become a robot! These alpha-bots and numbers provides sensory stimulation to students who learn differently from our visual or auditory learners. These materials provide fine motor development, cognitive skills, language and social development, adaptive/ self-help skills and academic skills for their future.

Alpha-bot and Number-bots will be used in the manipulative area in our classroom to encourage growth and development of our students in all areas of development.
