Aloha `Aina

My students need resources for Hawaiian history. They want to learn more but do not have access to books. Our school library has been closed over a year.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Fisher's classroom raised $634

My Students

My students are very interested in Hawaiian history. Finding relevant resources, especially video, is very difficult. We are located in a rural community. Our school library has been closed for over a year.

We are the only school in the state situated on Hawaiian Homelands.

This is a Title I school. The student population is 75% Hawaiian or part Hawaiian. We have been discussing the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy and Queen Liliuokalani. The students are very interested in finding additional information. However, information is hard to come by, especially without a school library. The books will help the students learn more about their history and culture.

My Project

The students will be able to read varying opinions and ideas about their history and culture. They want to learn more but we are very limited in resources at school. Our school library has been closed for over a year and Internet information is limited. Many of the students do not have internet access at home either. The students will be able to borrow the books and take them home to read and learn more about their past.

These books will make a huge difference for the students.

They know very little about their history. I have other books I purchased, this will be a great addition to my classroom library. The students are hungry for knowledge and many enjoy reading an actual book, not information off a computer. These books will be both educational and enjoyable for the the students to read, offering varying perspectives on Hawaiian history.
