Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I strive to be an effective, trans-formative and influential educator. I am constantly looking for opportunities to sharpen my skill and develop my craft, all in an effort to reach and teach each student that walks through the doors of our school.
For the last 11 years, I have taught students who face so many challenges, but they realize that education is the vehicle to drive them towards a more promising future.
With so many issues, it is my mission as their educator to take them away and rescue them from their pressing worries through the joys of meaningful experiences and exposure to what life has to offer.
Our school is 100% poverty stricken; with only one other in the state of South Carolina. I do not take this rank as an excuse to have a pity party, but rather as a means of motivation. Daily, I strive to plant seeds of hope and reassure the students that education is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity and future success. By understanding that there is more to life than what meets the eye, it is my belief that my students will do what it takes to beat the odds, defy the statistics and embrace the world of education and all it has to offer!
My Project
For years I have been thoroughly impressed with the mission and vision of The Ron Clark Academy, located in Atlanta, Georgia. The founder, Ron Clark has authored several books: The End of Molasses Classes and The Essential 55. Both publications spoke to me tremendously. Like Clark, I to share the belief that in order to really meet the physical, educational, social, and emotional needs of the students we serve, it takes collaboration and cooperation from both the home, the school, business community at large.
I am requesting books and supplies so I can be prepared for the training this summer. The posters and bulletin board sets will allow me to fully implement what I learn while on the campus of RCA. I would be able to bring the acquired knowledge back to my home school and share with my colleagues and administrators, so we too can begin to implement these same efforts!
As an educator, we have to be committed to being a life-long learner.
The same passion for learning we strive to ignite in our students, we must also possess. There is never a point in our career where we reach a plateau and can declare that 'we know it all'! Now that I am attending this training, I will be "recharged, re-inspired, re-energized, renewed, and rejuvenated" as I enter my 12th year in education! Ron Clark said it best; "Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness!"
