Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin One way my students love to learn is through the use of technology. We will use technology as a tool to foster learning by using devices and related programs for different subjects.

My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school.

They are bursting with energy to have a strong year and are highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be hard workers and focused. Not only are they oldest students at school, they are now probably the biggest students as well! My class is made up of 25% English Language Learners, which has me using various teaching methods to help them learn the English language along with the other 5th grade standards, including the Common Core. Being at a Title I school, we are limited with technology. We lack a computer lab. We do not have computers or tablets in our classroom, so we are very eager to start our own technology lab in our own classroom!

My Project

I believe all my students can benefit from having iPads in the classroom, including my English Language Learners and those with hearing and learning impairments. My students will be able to use the iPads to do research to help them complete future reports and projects. They will use various educational applications on the iPad to apply their skills and learning from class to help stimulate their problem solving skills during their independent work time. They will be able to view educational videos from the iPad that will be connected to our projector through the adapters. My 5th graders will also have to take various assessments, such as the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium through the use of an iPad in the spring, so practicing test taking skills on our own iPads will be beneficial, as well. With a full classroom of 34 students, we need the use of two iPads to share among the class.

Each of my students will benefit having iPads in the classroom.

Having tablets for my students will make learning more exciting and less mundane as they will have various opportunities to work independently or with a partner by completing educational challenges through the applications. They will experience taking assessments on these devices, giving them practice for their test in the spring. Using iPads this year will also give them practice for using them in middle school next year!
