All the World's a Stage- Help Us Build It!

My students need microphones, painting and sewing supplies, and tools for sound, set building, and costume making!

My Students

Within our drama club, every student can find a place to contribute. From technical jobs, such as set building and painting, to lighting and sound, our students take leadership roles within the production. They work together in teams to learn new skills and help create mentoring relationships.

Students who participate in the drama club come from grades 6-10 and from diverse backgrounds.

They join our production with a range of varying experiences, and the older drama club members help to mentor the younger ones. Through our practices they learn the skills necessary for running the production themselves. Students take up leadership roles within every area of the play’s production. They learn to manage the backstage organization. They learn how to run the lighting system. They take up the leadership of the production. Despite our tight budget, students learn valuable lessons!

My Project

Participating in theatre helps to build student confidence and promotes team work, commitment, and responsibility. This project will help our theatre program as we look to further cultivate these qualities in our students.

My school is building its theatre program and needs some supplies to reach the next level!

We work with mostly donated items and need a few tools to help advance our progress in the areas of costuming, set design, and sound. By owning our own microphones and cords, my students will have more flexibility in setting up and our club won't have the added cost of renting them. The Home Depot gift card will help us afford some of the building materials (foam insulation, plywood, and wood trims) my students use to build our set, while the spray painting kits and paint strainers will help us add detail and try new techniques. The iron and ironing board are necessary replacements for the ones which we have worn out. They make our costumes look more professional and authentic. There are many items needed for costume making (thread, zippers, and trim) which can be purchased with a Jo-Ann Fabrics gift card.

Last year our high school theatre group advanced to the NHETG State Festival. We want to build on that experience to generate more growth for both our high school and our middle school! In the words of one of our students: "Theater is very important in student lives because it gives them more confidence and self respect, which is a very important feature in a future leader." By contributing to our project you will be supporting these young actors and technicians as they practice important skills and grow in confidence which will stay with them throughout their school years and beyond!
