Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have over 302 curious minds who come into my classroom, each week, ready to learn about art: both the history and the practice of making it. The students I have range in age from 5-11 and grades kindergarten through 5th.
For some of my students, this is the first year they have attended my art class, and they are eager to participate!
For others, this is another year for them to learn and experience new things. My students are bright and energetic, with creative minds that shock me sometimes, with the great ideas they come up with. Many of the children I teach have a very hard home life' their parents are both working two to three jobs to scrape by, they are homeless, or they come from a broken family.
The goal of my classroom is that no matter where they come from or what is going on outside of school, the students have the same opportunities and materials as students in the schools around here. It can be hard at times, but with the support of people like you, I am able to give these students an amazing art class each year.
My Project
Ours school recently got a button maker. (I know you are thinking of something like on your jacket but the buttons are actuality more like a pin.) This has quickly become the students FAVORITE project to do at recess. We went through 100 pin parts in two days (the students are only allowed to make 1 button a day) and the great part about this is that I see the students wearing them all the time. They are on backpacks, shirts, lanyards, really anywhere they can put them. I have more then one student making buttons for their friends, family, teachers, and coaches. One of my girls has a list of about 15 people she wants to make a button for before she makes one for herself. We are asking for the parts to make 1000 buttons.
The students are not happy with me right now because I have put a hold on their creativity and button making fun until we get more parts.
Please help use to get all the parts to make a whole button.
