Being young scientists, my students are inquisitive and are constantly questioning the world around them. They have many talents and skills that they bring to our classroom everyday. They are creative and critical thinkers who are developing a scientifically based view of their worlds. They are problem solvers who are not afraid to take on complex challenges. Our school serves students of all abilities and proudly promotes the idea that all students can learn, but not on the same day and not in the same way.
My students are creating and maintaining a Science Interactive Notebook. We include notes, data we collect from labs, academic vocabulary, and models, and much more. My students need markers and colored pencils to make their notebooks come to life. The process of them coloring the visuals they create or visuals that are provided for them, help them to really understand the content. This is especially important for the skill of creating models which is part of our Next Generation Science Standards. Our course is an integrated science course, which includes life, earth, and physical science. Many of my students are visual learners who may be able to demonstrate their knowledge through pictures as well and words.
