Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard-working, inquisitive individuals, the majority who come from low-income families. Because of this, many of my students enter the classroom already facing barriers to their success. In order for my students to participate in scientific discussions, and experience the world as true scientists, they need the resources to allow them to be fully engaged while they are in the classroom. A lack of resources should never be a barrier to engaging budding scientists.
Your help gives students a priceless opportunity to take ownership of their own learning, and customize how they learn in order to have a chance to experience the wondrous world of science like never before.
My Project
Gone are the days of traditional rows of desks and teachers lecturing while students memorize facts and complete worksheets. In my science classroom, students are working in cooperative laboratory groups, thinking pairs, and in groups of their own choice to discuss and think like scientists. Flexible seating like this provides ample opportunities for students to make connections with others and the content and helps to address students' social and emotional needs.
I need help providing them with new types of seats, like motion stools, pillows, and fidget bands that allow them to move around the classroom and work flexibly with others, so that ALL students are able to access curriculum and take ownership of their learning.
Won't you help to reimagine my classroom and be a part of helping my students learn science outside of the box!
