My Project

The number of students on my roll each year that suffer from attention deficit disorders has steadily risen throughout my 16 years of teaching high school. Many of these students end up with discipline referrals for misbehavior simply because they struggle to stay focused and on task. Other students find their grades negatively effected by their struggle to sustain their attention for extended periods of time. With traditional seating arrangements, these students are forced to be seated in the back of the classroom where they have the ability to stand up if necessary; however, if they want to continue with their work they have to sit down to have a stable surface to write on.

These bar tables and stools will allow my students the option to sit or stand at their table without being banished to the back of the classroom or causing any unnecessary distractions while still continuing with their work.

I firmly believe that when the diverse needs of students are met, via teaching strategies and classroom design, classrooms transform from perceived prison cells and breeding grounds for discipline issues into environments conducive for learning.
