This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My New Orleans classroom has been housed for two and a half years in a temporary building, and we had just moved to our new building when we had to immediately go to distance learning. The majority of my students come from diverse backgrounds and low-income households. All of my students qualify for free lunch. My students face racial disparity, feel distraught as they have no support system. My students' parents are on board, but they are really disproportionately affected by the pandemic as they are working two or more jobs as essential workers at a time.
This pandemic has dampened their spirits but it should not limit their abilities or expectations.
It is needed for their social-emotional health!
Please help me deliver brushes, and sun catcher paint sets for students who have been lagging behind due to the pandemic. for my students so they feel emotionally upbeat!
In New Orleans, I want students to be fully engaged in equitable and inclusive learning during the pandemic. As compared to magnet schools, most of my students are lagging behind and struggling this year for lack of basic art materials. My students will be studying virtually, I want them to be painting outdoors which will be a nice calming activity. They need to express their feelings via art and put their energy into creating beautiful sun-catcher masterpieces. My students will share their art, they will relate to each other as it will help with their exuberance to learn.
My students, especially girls, need some emotional support as they seem to be struggling.
Most of my students are disproportionately affected by the pandemic, as they come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and continue to face racial discrimination and feel traumatized.
They also need some encouragement and positivity in their lives to cheer them up. I wish to give them an equal opportunity, ample art supplies materials which mirror their artistic nature and gifted personality to succeed, and are well prepared for an uncertain future.
These art materials will help me with inclusion and equity when I introduce these for promoting fairness. We need sun-catcher paint kits, and brushes for painting My students will enjoy appreciating your support while painting and being in the flow painting and feeling less stressed.
