My students need an all in one desktop computer to support science project based inquiry. The computer would help students research innovations in science.
Every morning, we begin a new adventure in learning. What are we going to discover today? What might we dream up to change the world and what might it take to do so?
My students attend our NYC public school in one of the most culturally diverse areas of the nation.
We speak many languages and serve an international community. Education is the vehicle for upward mobility and the families of our children look to us to provide the education that will facilitate the children's academic success. There is a particular appreciation of the sciences, and the focus on STEAM (science, technology, education, arts and mathematics).
My fifth graders are highly motivated and enjoy learning about science through the lens of other content areas. STEAM is a powerful vehicle through which this can be achieved. They are engaged in project based learning in which they conduct research to develop their science innovations.
My Project
My students are working on inventions that they will submit to a national competition. We need a computer that will allow them to conduct research, create digital graphics, and will have the capacity to to edit their original work but in text and with graphics and videos. We are requesting an all in one desktop computer which will have the power to successfully support this type of research and digital graphic development. While the desktop we have requested is powerful, it is modestly priced, and we have chosen the desktop for that reason. It will be used by students grouped in competition teams to conduct the science research necessary to develop their innovations. The graphics can be edited and enhanced digitally with the software that comes bundled with the all in one desktop.
As we differentiate curriculum to meet students' academic needs and align with the Common Core standards, we need the necessary tools to enhance the learning environment.
This computer would be dedicated to STEAM projects and support students' abilities to develop creative projects. Reasonably priced yet still beyond financial reach, this computer is just the technology that can help my students achieve their academic goals.
