Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"We must view young people not as empty bottles to be filled, but as candles to be lit." -Robert H. Shaffer
I desire for ALL my students to develop a love of learning. Once they spark, their future is limitless.
Our school is a grade level school.
All third and fourth grade students attend from our small agricultural community. Many of our students come from low-social economic status. Due to high poverty rate, our school is labeled as a Title I school.
My students come from all different types of backgrounds. I have students from military families, migrant families, and dairy families. I also have students whose parents are either professors at a local college or are students themselves. They enjoy researching and learning new things. Recently, they have spent time learning about Greek gods and mythology. Everyday is a new adventure with them.
My Project
I envision my students using the Kindle Fires to access a variety of books during our small group rotations. Not only will they enjoy reading books at their fingertips, they will also be able to conduct research and use Edmodo. I also envision them, one day soon connecting with students around the world via skype and other means. The Kindle Fire will make this possible.
With the shift to Common Core and the demand of technology, it is important to include devices that allow students access to a variety of resources and opportunities to use them.
The addition of the Kindle Fire will provide me with limitless amount of resources and put them into the hands of students during small group time. As a result, the students will be able to connect with each other, others around the world, in ways I have not be able to provide on my own.
