My students are hard working and very energetic. They are creative and love to learn! We are a year round school and I loop with my class which means I get to work with them for two years. Our school is Title I with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast, lunch, and two snacks.
"It's okay to be different" has been a positive motto for our class this year!
We are very lucky to be in a culturally rich classroom where we can learn about diversity. Over half of my students are receiving services for special education and ESL. We spend a lot of time building our community and appreciating each other's differences.
My Project
Our math materials are in major need of an update. While my students have become masters of building with cubes and pattern blocks, we are more than ready for new and engaging materials. I am wanting these materials in order to implement a more STEM approach to our math and science time. It is so important for my students to have the opportunity to be actively engaged and working with their hands, and we need materials such as Brain Flakes and Magnetic Blocks in order to do this.
We desperately need materials that are STEM oriented and allow for some higher level creativity and building!
Having these items along with the others listed in this project like the Legos and Marble run, coupled with a challenging task card that I would provide, will give my students the opportunities to increase their critical thinking and spatial reasoning skills.
