My students need a variety of hands-on literacy activities in differentiated levels to help them discover the joy in learning while traveling the road to becoming readers!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our students are amazing. They are kind, smart, motivated, and curious. They also attend school in a high poverty district. Our students have had a difficult year. Their teacher, my dear friend, passed away. She loved her students with her whole heart, and was in the classroom as much as possible while she was fighting her battle with cancer. This is why I refer to the students in my class as "our" students. I'm going to be with these 26 beautiful children until the end of this school year, and my goal is to finish out what my friend started, and to bring our students joy as they continue learning.
In a way, these 26 young students who carry so much on their little hearts have made me feel alive again.
My own husband is battling cancer, and I was not in the classroom due to this fact. As I stepped into "our" classroom I found my purpose again. My goal is to encourage, nurture, and teach these children to be the very best versions of themselves. I want to ensure that they continue to feel loved, supported, and important as well as making my dear friend proud.
I always tell our students that readers are leaders. The variety of hands-on literacy activities such as Fishing for Phonics, Letter Stamps, and Sight Word Sorting Mailboxes will help our students find joy in learning, as they practice literacy skills. Our students will be motivated to learn while using the Alphabet Locks, as well as practicing fine motor skills while using the Get Ready to Write Gumball Grab. The Letter Robots will surely be a high interest item and encourage our students to "learn" while they play. After all, play is the work of the child.
I always tell our students that practice makes perfect, but practicing literacy skills isn't always "fun." The multiple levels of materials I have requested such as the building words, the file folder phonics games, and the play dough letter mats will help me keep every child in our class motivated, inspired, and eager to learn.
With these hands-on literacy centers, I can ensure that all our students are actively engaged in the learning process. These materials will also allow me time to provide individual instruction to students while secure in the knowledge that the rest of the students are actively engaged in learning activities that are suitable to their skill levels.
I am a new teacher to our students, and I want to provide our students with new and exciting hands-on learning activities. Please help me set the tone for excellence and excitement. I thank you in advance for your support!
