My Project
Everyone loves a scary story. But the ones you tell around the campfire are much different than the ones you see in the evening news. As reading scores decline, it's frightening to think what the future holds for the next generation. That's why we need your help.
This October, help us prove to students that reading isn't scary.
We're asking for current, interesting choices in both fiction and nonfiction; the titles were all requested directly from my students. This project shows that reading is truly a hallowed experience. A community of strangers giving a small gift to children is what Halloween is all about.
It's no trick--there's a simple way to get kids to read--put interesting books in their hands and let them experience the treat of escaping into a good story. (Even if it's about werewolves, zombies, or something really scary, like high school.)
