All Great Leaders Are Readers

My students need leveled books that are interesting to them and just challenging enough to help them grow as readers.

My Students

My first grade students show perseverance everyday as they learn to read, write, make observations, articulate their thoughts, operate with numbers, and cooperate with others. They are an enthusiastic group of learners who are excited about school. Witnessing the joy that they experience as they tackle a new book or solve a challenging math problem is beyond rewarding.

I teach at a diverse Title I school in North Carolina where the majority of students come from low-income households.

Despite challenges at home and in their neighborhoods, my students come to school everyday with the desire to succeed and reach big goals. My dream is for my students to have a classroom full of high-quality, engaging books that give them the same life-changing learning opportunities as every other student across the nation.

My Project

These materials will ensure that all students have "Just Right" books to choose from in our classroom library. "Just Right" books are books that are not too easy and not too hard. They are the right level of difficulty, ensuring that students feel successful while simultaneously growing as readers. Our classroom library is currently deficient in levels C-F, and many of the books that we do have are old in not in great condition.

Everyone is a reader, some just haven't found their favorite book yet.

My hope for this project is that these fiction and non-fiction books will provide more choices so that every student finds their favorite book and develops a love of reading. I hope that with enough high-quality books in the levels that my students need to grow, my students will achieve, and then go on to exceed, their personal goals this year!
