This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a teacher at a Title I school in a low-income, high-poverty school district where 99% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students overcome adversity every day when they simply walk through the classroom door.
My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom, and yet, they are always excited to come to school each morning and are willing and ready to learn.
In the beginning of the school year, the students and I spend time getting to know one another. This project requests for people and other craft materials (where students can select their paper doll that is closest to their skin color). They will use it to create and decorate themselves as they share about their cultural background with the class. The yarn will be used to hang the people shape dolls along with their poster they will create to share more about themselves with the class. Having name tags for the students to wear, especially at the beginning of the school year helps the students to identify themselves and each other as we get to know everyone's unique name. The students will continue to use them all year long!
