My fifth grade class is an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of special education and general education students together learning side by side. In addition to being diverse learners, they are also ethnically, racially and economically diverse. (More than one-third of our students come from low-income households.) Our diversity helps us create and foster an open-minded learning environment. Students develop a love for learning in a nurturing and enriched classroom where empathy and understanding are naturally embedded and encouraged.
Our school promotes learning through student based inquiry, discussions and project based learning.
We are equally concerned about the children's social and emotional development. The independence acquired as problem solvers in their studies is also encouraged in their personal and social lives and interactions.
My Project
We believe that all children should have equitable opportunities to explore and create rich academic experiences. To help make this a reality, all students need to have access to the world of technology throughout each school day. More than one-third of students come from low‑income households. My class consists of both special education and general education students with different learning needs and modalities.
My Project
In our class community, we value technology and the opportunities it provides to enhance our learning. We currently have 15 laptops to service a class of 25 students. Having a full class set means that students will be able to use them when they need to, anytime. Students use the computers to listen to audiobooks, practice complete writing assignments, research science and social studies topics independently, produce slideshows for projects and practice math skills.
We believe that each child should have access to a computer to support their learning needs throughout the school day.
The goal of this project is to eventually provide all 25 students in our class with a Chromebook computer to use as needed, in all subjects. Please help me provide Chromebooks to all of my students for school. Any support will be greatly appreciated! Thank you
