Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin. I follow the teaching practice of hands on learning and giving my students learning experiences that they can connect with.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, speak many languages, and have many voices and stories to share.
We are a TITLE I school, which means many of our students come from disadvantaged homes. Regardless, each student comes to school every day with a smile and a joyful greeting. They love school, they love learning, and they look forward to connecting to the world around them through the classroom.
My Project
My first graders need access to high interest books that will engage their minds and broaden their imaginations. With your generosity, I am purchasing books by favorite authors and new authors. I will use the books for Read Aloud lessons to teach core comprehension skill. My first graders will also have access to these books in our classroom library to enjoy during independent reading and buddy reading. We will read these books in science, social studies/history, and as mentor texts during writers workshop.
The titles I am requesting are cross curricular so students will see how reading and writing go hand in hand.
The titles that I have requested will also inspire my first graders to be writers. Using these books as inspiration, my first graders will learn how to be creative writers and storytellers.
Your generosity and support will enrich my students reading and writing development. Young children have a passion for stories and these books will feed their thirst to learn, play, and grow!
