The use of cow eyes for dissection is the most extraordinary activity my classroom, especially in psychology, my students could experience. Using the cow’s eye, like other farm animal organs, is similar to human eyes. One benefit of a cow eye dissection is that by examining the anatomy of a preserved eye, students can learn how their own eye forms images of the world and sends them to the brain.
Another reason to provide this hands-on learning is to expose students to potential careers such as farmers, psychologists, ophthalmologists and veterinarians (among others).
They must be intimately familiar with cow eyes to perform their jobs well.
