it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Civilization is a race between education and chaos." - H.G. Wells.
My third grade class - mostly ESOL children far below reading level - can vastly improve their skills through the shared reading experience provided by a vibrant listening center.
My students need to read along with modeled reading as much as possible. Most of their parents can't read to them in English. Our school is in a high-poverty area and has almost no resources.
This book set will not only help our children with their reading skills - which are in dire need of improvement - but will provide them with a social studies experience they would not otherwise have, as reading, math and science have, by necessity, taken over most of the school day. Our children need to read - and they also need to understand our country's rich history. This gift would do double the good by providing both experiences.
Abraham Lincoln ended slavery in the U.S. Real freedom comes with the power one gets from a solid education. You will make it possible for my students to improve their reading skills to the point where they may be able to truly achieve in their lives - and provide them a role model in the ever-inspiring Mr. Lincoln. Thank you!
