Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a school that serves 2,240 students, 94% of which are minorities and 75% are Hispanic. According to the Donorschoose website, “schools in districts that mainly serve students of color receive substantially less state and local support than similar districts that serve primarily white students.” I believe that ALL students deserve to have fun and engaging learning opportunities and events at their school and funding should not be a barrier. I hope that by creating this project, I will be able to provide this in spite of the funding gap that exists.

I believe it is important for students to learn about cultural awareness and acceptance and to learn to appreciate and value what their peers bring to the table.

Learning about others’ cultures, or even their own, can lead to better communication and stronger relationships.

My goal for this project is to include the entire student body and staff in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. There will be music, dancing, arts and crafts, rallies, games, competitions, and activities that everyone, regardless of their culture, will be encouraged to participate in. All of the items on the list will serve either as prizes or as snacks during the activities. Thank you for allowing me to provide these activities for my school.
