Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach English Language Learners and want to create a welcoming and caring environment. Many of my students have recently moved from a different country; this can be a scary and overwhelming transition. Most of my students have limited resources at home.
In order to teach, students must first feel welcomed when they walk into their classrooms.
Essentially school is their home away from home so making their classrooms safe, aesthetically warm and welcoming is imperative to their learning.
The donations from this project will provide supplies and classroom materials my students will benefit from all year long and for years to come. It will help beautify my classroom by providing my students with the necessary supplies to design bulletin boards, hang wall art and posters. Giving them a sense of home and belonging. The posters featuring welcoming and diverse messages will help support the inviting feeling that I am aiming to create. A large population of my English Language Learners speak Spanish. The English and Spanish classroom labels will help them learn important school vocabulary. The laminator will be invaluable in ensuring that these materials can be used for years to come.
The world map will be used to identify and highlight where my students come from. The calming oils and diffuser will also help to reduce stress, anxiety, and even headaches.
