All About Reading: Spanish Titles!

Help me give my students a collection of mostly Spanish language easy-to-read books to help build the habit of daily reading.

My Students

Middle school can be tough. Socially, emotionally, and academically, there can be lots of challenges for students in the early teen years. My students are learning English and adapting to a new culture while navigating these difficult years, and this creates an extra layer of challenge.

My English language learner students are resilient, resourceful, and caring young teens.

These students have been through a great deal beyond their control in their short lives, but they use multiple talents and strengths to overcome current obstacles. We share hands-on experiences as a springboard for launching into a new language. Investigating STEM topics, history, and the arts in our language arts classroom allows my older new readers to develop key reading and writing skills with age-appropriate materials.

My Project

Daily self-selected reading is an important part of building readers. My students will be excited to see these new Spanish language titles arrive in our classroom. I worked with a couple of my most reluctant readers to choose the books, and they suggested Snoopy books, Captain Underpants, Dog Man, and other popular titles.

Keeping our classroom library fresh will help my students develop into strong readers and even avid readers.

These new books will have my students asking for just a little more reading time in class, and that is a wonderful first step towards overcoming an aversion to books. Thank you for your support.
