My Students

My Title I school is located in an urban area. We are a diverse student body with students who speak various languages and come from a wide variety of cultures. Truly, our school is a melting pot centered around academic and social development. My students are fifth graders who come from all corners of the globe.

We are literally the United Nations within one classroom.

My students have varied interests and strengths including writing, acting, gaming, technology, design, and sports. They are intrinsically motivated to grow and work hard to meet the academic and social expectations they make for themselves. The children are kind individuals, respectful of various viewpoints, and are willing to learn from their mistakes.

My Project

This year, I have had the pleasure of teaching 30 fourth and fifth graders in a split level class. As our fifth graders will be matriculating to middle school in the new school year, this will be the very last field trip that my students will take as a classroom community. Please help us make this a memorable last grip for our classroom community.

I am seeking a grant to support our transportation costs to get to the La Brea Tar Pits and to return safely.

The children love learning and they love being outdoors. The tar pits are a perfect place to meld the two loves. We will partake in outdoor activities, investigating how the presence of tar impacted the local environment and how the topography of Los Angeles changed due to the presence of tar. We will also visit inside the museum, where students will get to learn through hands-on displays, and even get to see real archeologists in action!

After, we will have a picnic and get a chance to play together for one of the last times as a community before the end of the school year. Thank you so much for supporting my students.
