Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very special group of fifth graders learning in a high-needs area of the Bronx. We are a small school that houses approximately 200 bilingual students and 25 teachers/staff. Most say we are like a big family in our tiny school. My students deserve the best education possible and in this diverse society, we have to make sure we service each unique need.
Due to school budgets, I am unable to always provide the best educational resources that my amazing students deserve.
We all do the best we can with what we have, but as we all know, our educational system is always evolving and often times we need more tools to reach every child.
With the help of the donations, we can help my students reach for the stars!!
My Project
These books will continue to enhance our print-rich classroom. Our classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy! Every student book that is placed in our library is treated with love and care. My students love to read during our DEAR time, drop everything and read! All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will are able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time. It will also help them become more fluent which will then help them in their comprehension.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to not only read independently at their own grade level, but by interest as well.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already show an amazing interest in independent reading, and these additions to the classroom library will only help enrich their experiences more.
