My students are exceptional in every way. As an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) teacher, I have the privilege of working with students of all abilities—some with physical challenges, others with sensory or developmental differences. Each one brings a unique spark to class. Whether they’re learning how to kick a ball or ride a scooter, their enthusiasm, resilience, and joy inspire me every single day.
To fully access and enjoy physical education, my students need tools and equipment that meet their diverse needs.
For my project, I am requesting essential items that will help create an environment where every student can thrive. Equipment like a soccer goal will give all students, regardless of mobility level, the opportunity to aim, score, and experience the thrill of teamwork and accomplishment. A portable speaker will allow me to create a motivating atmosphere through music and auditory cues, which are especially helpful for students who respond strongly to rhythm and sound.
To support skill development and safe participation in batting activities, a softball/baseball tee will help students build coordination and confidence. A steel chain basketball net will provide vital auditory feedback for my blind student, allowing them to hear the sound of success when the ball swishes through the hoop. A portable speaker to create a motivating atmosphere with music and auditory cues will help regulate and engage all students, especially those who respond to rhythm and sound. Additionally, scooters will offer a fun and sensory-friendly way to build strength, coordination, and teamwork, supporting students at all levels of motor development.
