Algebra Tiles - Putting A Picture On Algebraic Manipulations
My students need 1 classroom set of Algebra Tiles and 1 set of Magnetic Algebra Tiles as a way to learn algebra that is visual and kinetic.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Paul's classroom raised $212
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember learning algebra? Was it fun? Was it memorable? It will be with these tools!
The last thing 60% of the students in my class need to do is learn math... and yes, I did say NEED.
My 8th graders are parents for their siblings and many do not have a stable home. Despite all of this, they all want to excel in life and their mathematical careers.
My Project
I am requesting 1 classroom set of Algebra tiles and 1 set of magnetic Algebra tiles.
With these math tools of the new age, algebra can be something visual and playful rather than an abstract painting with numbers and letters. These tools connect three parts of their mind together to increase learning: the visual part of the brain, the kinetic strand, and their thinking part. OK... I'm not exactly sure what the third part of the brain is, but I do know that the more senses used to learn, the easier it is to swallow.
With these tools, I hope to break any misconceptions of mathematics being a boring rote procedure.
Hopefully they will move on in their mathematics careers understanding that mathematics is more natural that a set of given rules and procedures.
