This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students are either ESE (have learning disabilities), low performing or have a language barrier (English is their second language). My goal is to create a tool (Interactive Notebook) to aid them in learning Algebra better since Algebra is tied to graduation. Also, we do not have a a book in the classroom to use as a reference and out notes wand examples will help them.

I teach at a Title 1 High School.

Most of my students don't have the financial resources to bring these materials to class to make the Interactive Notebook. The class I teach, Algebra 1, is a state requirement. Students must pass the class and the state EOC (End of Course Exam) in order to graduate. This Interactive Notebook will help them learn the standards throughout the course through notes and examples. In essence, we are creating a "math book" to use in and out of the classroom.

In addition, I am asking for calculators for the students to use in the classroom to help them with their calculations. This calculator is permitted on the EOC. I will teach the students the functions on the calculator needed to successfully use them for testing. The markers are for whiteboard practice.
