Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are special because these are gifted students at a Title 1 school. Most students are working one grade level ahead; some are even two grade levels ahead in math. The kite project is a higher level critical thinking project that allows students to think outside the box.
Covid-19 kept all students indoors and online.
This project offers the opportunity to apply math skills in an outdoor setting to test their designs. This could not have taken place during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The requested resources directly relate to helping students continue social-emotional learning by working with a partner to design, construct, and fly their kites.
The academic learning will be directly aligned with math standards in a non-academic way.
More than half of students from low‑income households
