Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These meter & pop stickle sticks, bouncy balls, spoons, and other items will be used by students to make their own catapults as a final performance task for our unit about polynomials and rational functions. This is our longest unit of the year, so I always like to end it with this project where they get to see really abstract concepts come to life.
My students are at an urban, Title I art school, where hands-on learning is invaluable to them.
My students often struggle with mathematical concepts until they can work with manipulatives. Their creativity is exceptional, and they truly amaze me as human beings. I do this project yearly, and the kids often use it as an example to prove they are ready to graduate during their senior defenses.
