Alexa, Can We Learn About Voice Controlled Tech and AI?

Help me give my students just these few items to complete our classroom for the school year. We're asking for an Echo Dot (Alexa) and 2 LED light strips that can be controlled with the Echo.

My Students

I love being able to teach in a computer lab and a 1:1 environment, even though we are not a 1:1 school. The opportunity to integrate technology into the classroom experience is a game changer.

My students are curious, resourceful, inquisitive and eager to learn.

We are a rural, but growing school. Our students come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Computer Science is new to our school (this is our second year), but the students are embracing the change! The lab is such a fun learning environment. We cover important and necessary subjects such as digital citizenship, keyboarding and general computing knowledge in Computer Applications, as well as offering 3 computer science classes- Computer Science I, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A.

My Project

We'd like to add this technology (the Echo/Alexa and the Echo controlled lights) to our classroom to enhance several units of study in our technology classes. We feel like they will used in all seven of our classes this year.

Especially, they will be a useful example in our computer science classes as we study the big ideas of: the Internet, Global Impact and Data and Information.

The lights themselves will also be useful daily as we create a space that conducive to learning and fun to be in- an extra bonus! (They'll go around our smart board and under our counters.)
