I have a class of 25 first, second, and third grade students full of life, energy and excitement.
My students are very active and love to learn new concepts through hands on activities and exploration.
Our classroom environment is fitting for them as we are a Montessori School and encourage hands-on learning. The Montessori Method aims for the fullest possible development of the whole child, ultimately preparing them for the many experiences life has to offer. My students take an active role in their learning and help each other discover and explore all of the curriculum. Through their learning, my students develop independence and interact with each other in an emotionally positive way. We are truly like a family working together to better ourselves and each other.
Many students from military families attend our school. The Montessori philosophy supports and encourages these students to share their life experiences in a safe place while nurturing their emotional and social needs when their families are coping with deployments and other transitions they often experience. Military students are quick to adjust to the self directed style of learning and are eager to dive in to our curriculum that exposes them to the world.
To inspire our students to study more about what scientists, engineers, and mathematicians do and help us learn more about the world around us, we are taking a road trip to Kenai, Alaska!
We want to take 50 of our first, second and third grade students to the Challenger Center of Alaska to participate in STEM workshops that will encourage teamwork while they learn about space simulations and engineering.
They will get to participate in a two-day adventure focusing on Ice Cream Engineering and Rocketry.
This is an awesome opportunity to motivate our students to learn about new and exciting careers in science, technology, and engineering while working together in small groups.
