My students need 2 sets of STEM Learning Labs which will allow them to learn thinking skills and science concepts by conducting experiments with their own hands.
Did you ever sit in class bored or confused while a teacher tried to explain electrical circuits, gravity, or inertia? Did you think this information had nothing to do with your life? My students feel this way too.
My students are eager learners.
They enjoy discovering how things work. I love to see their eyes light up with wonder when they learn something new and exciting! Most of my students do not get opportunities outside of school to experience hands-on science learning. Our school has minimal supplies for science experiments and hands-on learning. The materials requested will be greatly appreciated by my enthusiastic learners.
My students need STEM Learning Labs to engage them in science activities that are connected to real life. STEM Learning Labs include three project based labs that bring students through the scientific process. All three labs are engineering activities. One lab, Don't Lose Your Marbles, explores energy concepts while students work together to design, build, and evaluate their own roller coasters. Another lab, Alarm Your Pencil Box, explores electrical circuits. Students will research alarm systems, then design and build their own pencil box alarms. The third lab, Space Lander, explores Newton's Laws of Motion. During this lab, students will learn how parachutes work, create their own space landers, and test gravity's effects on different objects. STEM Learning Labs are not only rich learning experiences, they build an understanding of how science is used in our world today. Who knows, maybe these activities will spark an interest that turns into a career?
Project based labs are important to my students' learning.
Who will design the next space shuttle, roller coaster, or future technology? Our children! My students need STEM Learning Labs for rich learning that will prepare them to be critical thinkers for a future in our ever changing world.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
