This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Mrs. Prado and I are collaborating to produce a modified version of Aladdin for students with disabilities. The cast consists of students in an Alternative Learning Environment who have not been part of a general theatre classroom. This will be their first opportunity to participate in a theatrical production. Here's some information from Mrs. Prado on her wonderful students:

"While working with children with disabilities is very challenging, it is also extremely rewarding.

The students that will participate in the “Aladdin” play asked me if we could have a play because they liked the book so much. The students have very different abilities, but they are all very capable of reading a script and even memorizing some lines. Given high expectations and providing them with a modified script that is differentiated based on their unique ability levels, allows them to be able to take part in this experience. None of them have been involved in this type of activity.

The students are educated in an Alternate Learning Environment and are instructed using and alternate curriculum that focuses on pre-requisite skills. We also focus on teaching them functional life skills so that they become as independent as possible, based on their abilities."

These costumes and props will help them have a great first show!
