My students need an alto metallophone and stand so that every student can have the chance to play all at once and so that instruments can be easily moved.

My Students
"Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" is a great song by Jack Johnson that too well describes the students in my classroom when they see there are not enough instruments for all of them to play together. Several of them have to sit, wait, and wish for their turn to finally come around.
I see nearly six hundred students every week excited to come to music class.
They love singing, playing, moving, speaking, and creating music, and they do it with great enthusiasm. These are kids who are ready to make their own decisions and come up with their own ideas, not satisfied with merely reproducing the ideas of their teacher. It's a good thing too, because their ideas regularly enhance the learning environment of the entire class.
My Project
I have classes of 28 students with only 25 Orff instruments. Orff instruments include xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels, all of which allow students to easily improvise and compose in a diatonic scale. I am requesting an alto metallophone because I regularly have students who have to pair up with others because we don't have enough instruments to cover everyone. This limits the students ability to play as a full ensemble and it slows my teaching as I have to repeat everything we do to make sure everyone gets to play at least once. I am also requesting a stand so that we can easily move one of our bass xylophones both to performances and out of the way in classrooms when it is not needed.
This project is so important because kids deserve the best possible experience with music.
By using the Orff philosophy and process, students are given so many opportunities to go outside of the traditional model of only singing notes out of a book and tap into their own creativity. However, this is difficult when the students outnumber the instruments, and with a better equipped classroom I am confident that these kids will make memories that will last a lifetime.
