My Project
My students are part of a specialized public program for the fashion industry. They are highly motivated and goal-oriented as they already have a post-secondary plan in mind. My students are artistic, diverse, driven, and incredibly talented young people. After years of experiencing remote learning, hybrid learning, and then returning full-time, our students have inevitably fallen into a mathematical educational gap.
After going remote, a lot of our mathematics curriculum has shifted to online platforms.
One major shift was in the form of electronic math homework submissions. A classroom iPad will allow select students to complete assignments in class who otherwise have trouble accessing the work at home.
Many times the math numbers and figures get skewed on smaller devices. An iPad would really allow students to be more engaged and help those specific students who struggle with their own technology.
As a teacher of Geometry, it is my job to help my students feel prepared to move forward and close the gap that was created in their fundamental skills. This can only be done by providing specific and individual feedback to each of them on a regular basis. This technology will allow me to conference with each student and create an individual plan to help them succeed. For example, I can leave personalized notes on each student's assignment after completion. An iPad is extremely lightweight and versatile, and can easily be passed around my classroom, from student to student, on an as-need-basis! The touch screen aspect of this technology will allow me to add additional graphics for those who learn better visually. In short, it will help me target instruction specifically to each student's needs!
