Our current classroom supply is just sad-she's missing pieces, and the drawers no longer fit in the racks and are cracked. This cart cannot even be used by students to get items they need because it is in such bad shape. It's clear-she needs to retire!
Receiving a new supply cart would help teach students responsibility in caring for our classroom supplies!
Right now, unfortunately they are unable to get supplies themselves due to the condition of our current cart. The one I have selected is also bigger than our current one which would allow us to store more items for students including highlighters, pens for correcting assignments, and even notebooks and folders!
Many of our students come from low income households and often need us to provide some of their supplies to help them succeed. Our students are ambitious and want to do their best. If the cart is available to students it makes it where students can 'self serve' and makes it less obvious to other students that they are missing supplies, which with 5th graders can be a big deal. Students should not have to stress about their family being unable to give them supplies-they should be able to focus solely on learning!
5th grade is also a time of learning great organizational skills before they go to middle school! We have many supplies that often do not fit inside a desk. Students greatly need another way to organize their supplies so they can be successful as possible. Our school will also be transiting to flexible seating in a few years where students will no longer have desks so they will need additional storage for all of their items.
