My students need to be able to grow in critical thinking. The puzzle center allows them to do this.

My Students
It located in a rural low economic area. I teach in a Title 1 school where all of our 100 % of the students receive Free Breakfast & Free-Reduced Lunch. There are 500 students in grades K-5 and 300 students in grades 6-8.
Students at our school strive to do their very best!
They love to explore and learn new things especially when they visit the Media Center.
Last year I started implementing centers for the classes to explore as they visited the library. After we complete our lesson for the day, students check out their library books and then they get to visit a center. Most of the centers are exploratory and creative thinking. The puzzle center involves critical thinking for K-2 students.
My Project
The puzzles will be used within the Media Center centers. The students enjoy putting puzzles together. There is usually a team of 3 students that work in this center together. The students have to communicate with each other to figure out where each piece will go.
The puzzle center also requires students to use Critical thinking skills as they have to determine where each puzzle piece will fit.
The students enjoy this center because it gives them a chance to work as a team and have fun! You can see a lot of growth with students throughout the year in this center. The students not only get better at putting puzzles together but they learn to collaborate with their peers.
