Agents of Change - Making a Difference in Our Community

My Students

Our students are a wonderfully diverse group of individuals who come to us with a variety of learning experiences and needs. Each learner contributes a unique set of skills and strengths to our classroom communities.

Situated in southern Saint Louis, our school and classrooms are full of students who are inquisitive learners that genuinely want to make a difference in our community.

Our three middle-school classrooms are focused around the idea of using communication skills to make our world more awesome.

My Project

These requested magazines are a perfect resource to use in our three middle school classrooms. Each issue contains paired texts in a variety of genres that explore one theme or topic in an engaging way.

Scholastic's SCOPE magazine provides rigorous print and digital materials that are of high-interest to my middle school students.

The text is great for practicing many language arts standards such as annotating and citing textual evidence. Through included discussion starters, our students will evaluate the text and use a variety of strategies to form, share, and support their own opinions of current events. From there, students will use the ideas from the magazines to work collaboratively on creating and implementing a related community service project in our own St. Louis area.
