These requested magazines are a perfect resource to use in our three middle school classrooms. Each issue contains paired texts in a variety of genres that explore one theme or topic in an engaging way. Scholastic's SCOPE magazine provides rigorous print and digital materials that are of high-interest to our middle school students. The text is great for practicing many language arts standards such as annotating and citing textual evidence. Through included discussion starters, our students will evaluate the text and use a variety of strategies to form, share, and support their own opinions of current events. From there, students will use the ideas from the magazines to work collaboratively on creating and implementing a related community service project in our own St. Louis area.
