My Students
I am a physical education teacher at a Title I elementary school in Northeastern North Carolina. I teach approximately 400 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our student population consists of a diverse group of students from various socio-economic, cultures, as well as military families.
I am passionate about what I do and try to provide opportunities for the students to participate in activities that support life-long physical fitness.
My students enjoy opportunities to be physically active. Throughout the year, they participate in a variety of activities including a jump rope unit, learning skills that can be used in soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and various other sports, relays, and fitness activities.
My Project
This is my fourth year hosting the after school running club. We meet after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for one hour.
After brainstorming with some past and current participants, we came up with a list of items that we feel would increase students endurance during each practice.
Typically it is very hot and I would love to provide water and a water bottle for each student participating. I use an app with my students called Ezscan, where they scan their QRcode after each lap. The badge holder and loops make the perfect bracelet and helps them keep up with their card. Since it is normally so hot, I wanted to provide sunglasses for the students and teach about sun safety as well.
