My Project
My goal is to make classes a welcoming and safe space where students can retreat during the school week. Middle school comes with many challenges, and I want to create moments of joy and connection for my students. By providing puzzles and yoga mats, I hope to give them a screen-free way to engage their minds during downtime and advisory class. Currently, I engage my advisory students in yoga and mindful activities. We are limited to what types of yoga we can do because of the lack of mats. We will be able to fully explore yoga and meditation during advisory with the purchase of mats. Arts and crafts materials will serve as a creative outlet and a way for students to bond, whether during recess, advisory, or my after-school club. Classroom essentials like pens, pencils, markers, and paper will replenish my supplies and ensure that every student, regardless of their circumstances, has the tools they need to succeed. Additionally, snacks will support students during long study sessions, testing weeks, and after-school work periods.
Ultimately, I want my classroom to be a space where all students feel valued, supported, and always included in some way.
Advisory is the perfect opportunity to create welcome opportunities in a non-curricular space and allow students to connect. I strive to improve the environment outside my class as well by volunteering in many ways to better our school and support all students, such as by running the school Instagram account. I have requested mini microphones to help me in creating meaningful videos to highlight student experiences and share our school's successes on social media. I try to showcase student work weekly and involve students regularly in the social media content, which will be enhanced with the use of microphones.
